About me

About Me – Kathleen Browne

I’m Kathleen Browne — a social worker, author, and parent of an adult son with unique needs. My journey started not in an office, but in hospital corridors, therapy waiting rooms, and countless meetings where I had to fight to have my child’s voice heard. Parenting a child with a disability has shaped not just my life, but my passion for helping other families navigate the challenges, confusion, and emotional weight that come with this extraordinary journey.

Today, I run my own private practice as a Registered Social Worker, offering support coordination, parent coaching, advocacy, and transition planning. Through my practice, I’ve guided families through the NDIS maze, supported parents in crisis, and helped individuals build calmer, more confident paths forward. My work is grounded in both lived experience and professional expertise, so when I say “I understand,” I truly mean it.

I’m also the author of The Unique Parent Club: Navigating the Extraordinary Journey of Special Needs Parenting, a book that combines my personal story with practical tools to help parents feel seen, supported, and capable. It’s more than a book — it’s a roadmap for families who want to shift from feeling powerless to feeling prepared and confident in the decisions they make every day.

No matter where you are in your journey — starting out, facing big transitions, or simply craving clarity — I’m here to walk beside you. My mission is simple: to help you feel supported, informed, and confident as you create a life that works for you, your child, and your family. Because when all else fails, you should never have to face this road alone.
